I’ve always somehow dismissed portrait photography, not sure exactly why. I guess it’s too easy a subject. A beautiful face, an expressive figure, bright eyes or on the contrary a wrinkled, live-through face is a ready-to-grab subject. With a little bit of micro-expression hunting one can get a masterpiece. Or maybe it is that human don’t inspire me visually that much.

For me, photography is compositing, seeing a pleasantly suprising or mentally disturbing arrangement of shapes and colors and getting it on camera. It’s a discovery, everytime. But in portraits there’s no discovery, from a composition point of view: no matter how expressive, captivating a person is, his shape will nonetheless be the same…. Like photographing a cube of different textures, colors, patterns, but still a cube.

That is why you will see here few pics of people in an envirnoment, people as an element of a composition, and quite few traditional portraits.
